How to Enter a Meet

To enter a meet:

Check annual meet schedule and on team emails because meet schedule is subject to change). Discuss with your coach to see if your group will be attending the scheduled meet.

The ‘Meet Sheet’ has all information for entering swim meets. Get a meet sheet from your coach or download a meet sheet from the Bear website on the “Meets & Events” page.

Do your entries on the internet or by hand. Check with your coach if you are uncertain about your times or visit www.swimconnection.com and enter your child’s name.

It is best to enter on line at ome.swimconnection.com as soon as the meet sheet is published. There will be a team email announcement once the host club is accepting entries. You can also send in entries by mail if internet is not available. Most meets fill up prior to deadline so it is important to complete your entries as soon as possible.

TELL YOUR COACH when you have sent in your meet entries!

RESL Championships and Zone 2 Championships or any other mandatory home meet: coaches will complete entries for swimmers.

Day of the meet:

Arrive in time to check in for your events and get a proper warm-up. Make sure you have discussed what time to arrive with your coach.

There will be a check-in table with a list of every swimmer entered in the meet. The swimmer is required to initial their name so that the Clerk-of-Course is aware that they are present. If the swimmer fails to check-in, the Clerk-of-Course will not place the swimmer in their events. Let your coach know that you have arrived and find out what to do for warm-up.

Sit in the team area. The team stays together at meets to build team spirit and provide support. Also, keep your things in the team area so that your teammates can help keep an eye on your belongings.

Pay attention to the announcer. Announcements will be made when heat and lane assignments are posted for each event. These assignments are generally posted on a centrally located wall on the pool deck. The swimmer is responsible for checking his/her own assignment, not the coach. Report to the coaches before and after every race so that they are aware of your heat and lane assignment, and can discuss your swim.

Take advantage of warm-up areas before and after your swims. A good warm-up and warm-down are important when you race. It keeps you loose and ready for your next swim and will prevent soreness in subsequent days.

Always wear a team cap when racing. This will help the coaches locate you when racing.
